Zoya is a journalist who lives on Sakhalin. She belongs to an indigenous small—numbered people - the Nivkh. As a child, she was bullied by her classmates because of her ethnicity, so she left her hometown at the first opportunity. But now she has to return to her native village of Nogliki. While spending winter evenings with her mother, Zoya writes down the stories and legends of her people. Writing a book helps her accept herself for who she is.
