Im Bazar der Geschlechter

Synopsis

According to Shiite tradition, it is possible in Iran to enter into a so-called temporary marriage. This form of marriage is contractually and individually determined in terms of time and primarily serves the purpose of paid gratification. The film illustrates its practical implementation using three examples: a lonely bachelor with a fear of missing out, a divorced single mother struggling to make ends meet, and a devout man of faith, all of whose life stories revolve around temporary marriage – which, for the protagonists, represents the last resort to their own misery.
